The next 4 years - What you should do to survive!

My page, my channel is never political. I shy away from politics because I am not that prolific about this area. I have told myself countless times I should be, but I haven't. While I am not totally ignorant, I don't know as much as I should. I think many Americans can attest to that.

With that being said, I think we should all learn more about politics and the political playing field. This recent election as enacted a division that I always saw coming in this country. The racism and prejudice were always there. It is woven into the very fabric of this country.

I was saddened as many Americans were with the results because we knew of the impact that it would have. In past elections, the impact was not always clear and present as it was to those who are on the left. Now that the election is over and those on the right have won. They expect that those of us on the left would be angry, violent, and any other narrative that is truly their own. We were saddened because we are fully aware of the implications that it will have on all Americans.

While this is not a political post, but a financial one. I want it to be understood that all things are connected, and one does impact another. As Americans we tend to think of systems are being independent versus interdependent and this leads many to not understand what and how things work.

With that being said I want to bring up two points that are important to understand:

1) The Affordable Care act and Obamacare (Republican coined) are the same things and if not extended many Americans regardless of race will lose coverage that is desperately needed.

2) A tariff is a tax that is placed on the import of foreign goods. The company that purchased the goods pays the tariff NOT the country from where said goods were produced. When the costs associated with the production of goods increases so does the price consumers pay!

Here is my advice for how to survive this next term and beyond. This advice is important regardless of who is in office.

  1. Pay off your debts - While this is always said, it is always important. The cost of goods will rise in this country. This means that many Americans who have disposable income will see it shrink or disappear. Those who always have none will feel the pinch even more. Paying off debts not only has financial benefits but psychological benefits.

  2. The US is a country of systems and programs. In this new economy, you should seek out reward programs and even credit cards that provide you with rewards that will be beneficial in your everyday life. You have to approach your financial life from a place of strategy. You want to always win in life and even in your finances you want to pay the cheapest price for the items you currently use.

  3. Intergenerational Living - As Americans we are pushed to strive for independence and autonomy and while those ideals are great, they may not serve many in this new economy and moving forward. We have already seen the price of goods and services increase and they are least likely to retreat. You may have to face the fact that your aging parents who didn't save a lot for retirement and who are riddled with debt may need to love with you or vice versa. We do not focus on cohabitation and peaceful co-existence and for those reading this, you may need to do just that.

  4. Entrepreneurship - This may be the time to start your own business or side hustle. We all can use more income, and this may be the path to survival for many people. If you need advice for starting your business or non-profit I'm your man.

  5. Lastly, but most importantly you need to create a network of love and support. This is the most important, we need to foster community and look out for each other in times like these. If we don't, we isolate ourselves and prevent ourselves from receiving not only the love but the support that we need. Community is key.
